Like all large-scale food manufacturers, they generate unavoidable waste. Cranswick wanted absolute confidence that this material was being managed compliantly, securely, and in a way that supported their wider sustainability commitments.
ReFood works in close partnership with Cranswick to deliver a fully managed, traceable solution for Category 3 Animal By-Product material. Collections are tailored to each production site using a range of dolavs, palletised loads, bulk trailers, and tanker services. Every container type, collection schedule, and service plan is designed around site layouts and production flows, ensuring waste handling is seamless and never interferes with manufacturing operations.
How we assisted with their operations
Through our partnership with sister company SARVAL, suitable Category 3 material is directed into responsible rendering processes, where it is converted into pet food ingredients and recovered oils. These recovered oils are then used as a feedstock in the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel and other biofuels creating a further circular route from unavoidable food waste into lower-carbon transport energy. Any remaining material not suitable for rendering is processed through ReFood’s anaerobic digestion facilities, generating renewable energy and nutrient-rich fertiliser. This ensures that every waste stream is directed to the most sustainable and highest-value treatment route available.
